Ask me anything

A new start, a new me?

I am someone who is looking for a better window, a brighter sunrise, and clearer eyes to see with.

Thanks to my sister, I now now have a jacket like this. <3 taiwan fashion.

That moment

where you can’t concentrate on anything because you got an email from the teacher you have the most massive brain crush on.

Seriously.

This guy is too cool. He speaks pretty much all Asian languages fluently (I don’t think he knows Korean or Japanese, but…that’s not for sure. He does speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese Hokkien, and Cambodian though.) and he is just so cultured.

Of course, my personal favorite aspect is that he calls Taiwan his “first love”. If you love Taiwan, I LOVE YOU. pretty much a direct reaction.

He said, “I’m always struck by how smart, motivated, and energetic people are in Taiwan and how well traditional Chinese culture has been preserved, practiced, and propagated in Taiwan. What a place…!”

Not to mention, he lived IN Taiwan during so many pivotal moments! The fall of the KMT and the development of the Democratic Progressive Party, the anti-nuclear protests in Taipei. He’s met with former President Chen Shui-bian, current President Ma Ying-jeou, and so many fascinating people.

After I told him I was Taiwanese, he’s just been talking to me about so many of the current events that are going on. Taiwan is suffering increasing pressure from China, and its autonomy is being increasingly encroached upon. The professor encouraged me, if I was interested, to take a Taiwanese language class offered at Penn (and even said he might take it along with me, since he wants to learn more Taiwanese). It’s just so comforting and amazing to be able to have this sort of engaging conversation with a professor. And it’s good to hear a sympathetic voice that is so knowledgeable about the topic.

Sometimes you meet a professor that you just never want to stop talking to. It’s such an amazing feeling.
